From Classroom to Stage: A journey Unveiled

In the year 1984, the quiet hum of my 3rd-grade classroom became the backdrop for an unforeseen expansion of my world. The curtain rose on this transformative journey when a Spanish-looking lady, her flowing black hair a mysterious prelude, entered my life.

Etched vividly in my memory is the brunette’s conversation with our teacher, whose name now rests in the recesses of forgotten moments. Suddenly, I found myself at the center of attention as my teacher pointed at me. The brunette’s gaze locked onto mine, and a series of questions ensued: Where’s my family from? Do I speak Spanish? In this innocent exchange, my journey into the realm of acting and performance commenced.

The orchestrator of this theatrical symphony turned out to be the producer of the play and my future High School Spanish teacher Ms. Mateo. Destiny, with a pointed finger, led them to search for a young, bilingual actor to breathe life into a character – a role that fate had uniquely tailored for me. This chance encounter propelled me onto a stage, not just any stage but the canvas for my self-discovery. What started as bewilderment transformed into excitement amidst the rehearsals for the spring high school play. In the pieces falling into place, I uncovered the pivotal role destiny had crafted for me – an 8-year-old bilingual boy from Puerto Rico.

The selection wasn’t mere happenstance. A standout performance in a school play about human organs and their functions, where I portrayed the stomach to rave reviews, played a role. Influenced by these accolades, my teacher recommended me, and the recent move from Puerto Rico added another layer of serendipity to the opportunity.

But what’s a blog without a glimpse of what’s to come? I’ll be sharing snippets from my memoir “Flipping My Script,” offering you a taste of the narratives that have shaped my career and life. Brace yourself for a narrative oscillating between laughter and tears, a mosaic of moments defining me.
